Kuntoarvion

Kuntoarvion, meaning fitness assessment, is a structured process used to evaluate an individual's physical condition and functional capacity. The aim is to determine current fitness level, identify potential health or safety risks related to physical activity, and inform the design of tailored exercise or rehabilitation programs. Kuntoarvio is commonly applied in healthcare, sports, rehabilitation, and occupational health contexts to support safe and effective activity since it combines medical considerations with practical performance measures.

A typical kuntoarvion includes multiple components. It often begins with a review of health history, current medications, medications allergies, lifestyle factors such as smoking and physical activity levels, and any symptoms or chronic conditions that might affect exercise. A brief physical examination and measurement of basic vital signs may be conducted. Objective fitness tests are then performed, which can cover aerobic capacity (often estimated through submaximal tests or walk/run tests), muscular strength and endurance (for example grip strength or sit-to-stand tests), flexibility, balance, and body composition. Functional assessments, such as tests of mobility or daily living tasks, may also be included to gauge how fitness translates into everyday activities.
