Anjing

Anjing, in Indonesian and Malay languages, refers to the domesticated mammal Canis lupus familiaris, a subspecies derived from the gray wolf (Canis lupus). Dogs were domesticated thousands of years ago and now live on every inhabited continent. They occupy roles as companions, working animals, and, in many cultures, integral members of households and communities.

Dogs show extensive physical variation in size, coat type, color, and overall appearance, ranging from small toy breeds to large working breeds. Despite this diversity, all dogs share common anatomical features typical of canids, such as a four-chamber heart, diagnostic teeth structure, and a domesticated behavioral profile shaped by human interaction. Their senses, particularly olfaction and hearing, are highly developed.

Behavior and learning capacity are diverse among dogs. They are social animals that often form strong bonds with humans and other animals. Dogs can be trained for a wide range of tasks, including obedience, service work, search and rescue, detection, herding, and guarding. Their communication includes vocalizations, body language, and eye contact.

Care and welfare considerations include appropriate diet, regular exercise, grooming, and preventive veterinary care. Vaccinations against common diseases (such as rabies, distemper, and parvovirus), parasite control, dental care, and weight management are important. Responsible ownership also involves socialization, training, and consideration of local laws and community standards.
