In automotive engineering, a start-stop system disables the engine when the vehicle is at a complete stop and restarts it when conditions permit, such as when the driver presses the accelerator or releases the brake. These systems, common in modern cars and hybrids, aim to reduce fuel consumption and emissions during idling. They rely on battery management and rapid engine re-engagement, and may affect comfort, electrical load, and performance in extreme conditions.
