SoCSoM

SoCSoM, short for SoC on Module, is a category of embedded computing modules that integrate a system-on-chip with essential support hardware into a single plug-in module. The module typically includes the SoC, on-board memory, non-volatile storage, and power management components, along with clock generation and boot firmware. It provides a standardized interface to a carrier board through a multi-pin connector, allowing developers to focus on application software and system integration while reuse of a common compute platform.

Typical components and features often found on SoCSoMs include RAM, storage (such as eMMC or flash), a PMIC and regulators, clock circuitry, and boot ROM or firmware. Optional features may include hardware security blocks, display and camera interfaces, and multiple I/O schemas (USB, PCIe, Ethernet, SATA, or other protocol support). Form factors vary by vendor but commonly align with compact modules around 30x50 mm or similar footprints, intended to mate with a carrier board.
