BalancingQualität is a concept in quality management that refers to the deliberate balancing of quality objectives with other constraints, such as time, cost, and risk, during product development and service delivery.

It treats quality not as an absolute to be maximized in isolation, but as a set of attributes that must be prioritized and balanced. The approach promotes defining acceptable quality levels early and translating them into measurable requirements, then using structured decision processes to resolve conflicts between quality and constraints. It is commonly applied in manufacturing, software development, and service design.

The term combines the German Qualität with balancing and is used in some German-speaking quality management contexts to describe an approach rather than a formal framework. It is often embedded in broader practices such as agile quality assurance, product roadmapping, and risk management.

Key techniques include trade-off analysis, quality function deployment (QFD), multi-criteria decision analysis, risk-based testing, and value-based prioritization. Data-driven metrics such as defect density, customer satisfaction, and total cost of quality support ongoing adjustments. Operationalization often relies on minimum viable quality thresholds and service-level agreements.

The concept aims to improve resource allocation and stakeholder alignment, while acknowledging that balancing competing goals can introduce subjectivity and require transparent criteria for decisions. It favors governance structures that document trade-offs and monitor outcomes.
