Undogmatisch is a German adjective used to denote a stance or approach that rejects dogma or fixed doctrinal claims. Derived from un- + dogmatisch (dogmatic), it literally means not dogmatic. In theology, undogmatisch describes a liberal or open approach to belief and doctrine, contrasting with confessional or creedal dogmatism. Proponents emphasize critical, question-driven inquiry, tolerating uncertainty, and openness to diverse interpretations and ecumenical dialogue. It is often associated with liberal theology, humanism, and certain currents within Protestant and Catholic contexts that seek to avoid rigid metaphysical systems while maintaining ethical commitments.
