Pressmetoder, or press methods, refer to manufacturing processes in which material is shaped or densified by applying pressure with a press, typically hydraulic or mechanical. They are used across metalworking, ceramics, and powder metallurgy to produce parts with repeatable geometry and high production efficiency.

Common categories include mechanical pressing, powder pressing, and hot forming. Mechanical pressing encompasses stamping, punching, bending, flanging, and deep drawing, where sheet metal is formed by a die set driven by a ram. Hydraulic pressing relies on incompressible fluid pressure to apply high forces, enabling high-tonnage forming and operations on delicate or complex-shaped parts. Hot forming and hot isostatic pressing combine heat with pressure to improve formability and achieve densification. Powder-metallurgy presses compress powders into green compacts, which may then be sintered to obtain final properties.

Powder pressing methods include uniaxial pressing, cold isostatic pressing (CIP), and hot isostatic pressing (HIP). Die pressing is commonly used for ceramics and metal powders, allowing near-net shapes with controlled porosity and mechanical properties. Cold pressing is performed at ambient temperature, while hot pressing and HIP involve elevated temperatures to enhance diffusion, bonding, and density.

Limitations include high tooling costs, limited geometric complexity for some methods, potential for part distortion, and energy-intensive processing.
