Konstruktionsteckningar are technical drawings used to communicate all information required to manufacture, assemble, and inspect a component or system. They are applied across engineering disciplines such as mechanical, civil, electrical, and structural engineering and serve as a bridge between design concepts and real-world production.

A typical construction drawing includes a title block with drawing number, revision level, author, scale, and often material and heat-treatment or surface finish notes. It contains dimensions, tolerances, and geometric tolerancing information, accompanied by views such as orthographic projections, section drawings, detail views, and exploded assemblies. Notes, symbols, and a bill of materials or part list may also appear, along with references to standards and instructions for manufacturing, assembly, or installation.

There are several types of construction drawings. Part drawings describe a single component with precise dimensions and tolerances. Assembly drawings show how multiple parts fit together. Detail drawings provide enlarged views of critical areas. Installation or construction drawings convey how a system should be put in place at its site, while electrical, piping, or instrumentation diagrams depict circuits, flows, and connections.

Standards and conventions govern these drawings to ensure consistency and interoperability. International and national standards cover line conventions, dimensioning, tolerances, and symbols (for example ISO 128, ISO 1101, ASME Y14.5, DIN). Many organizations also use CAD or BIM workflows, with data exchanged via formats such as DWG, DXF, STEP, or through model-based definitions that embed tolerances in 3D models.

In use, konstruktionsteckningar serve as the official technical record for manufacturing, quality control, procurement, maintenance, and future alterations, providing a single source of truth throughout a product’s lifecycle.
