Assembly is the process of combining components to form a finished product. It occurs across many fields, including manufacturing, construction, electronics, and biotechnology, and is focused on integrating parts so that a functional item emerges. In computing, assembly refers to a low-level programming language that uses mnemonic codes to represent machine operations. An assembler translates these mnemonics into machine code that a processor can execute directly. Assembly language offers precise control over hardware and can produce very fast, optimized code, but it is closely tied to a specific processor architecture and is generally harder to read, write, and maintain than higher-level languages.
