A gabionmurer plans drainage behind the structure to prevent hydrostatic pressure and ensures proper alignment, level, and integration with surrounding elements. Safety and quality control are important, including inspection of wire integrity and fill cleanliness.

Materials and methods: Core components are gabion baskets or mattresses made from galvanized or PVC-coated steel wire mesh, often hexagonal or rectangular in profile. Panels are joined by galvanized wire ties or clips. Fill materials are typically locally sourced stone; alternatives can include recycled concrete or sustainable aggregates. Construction emphasizes drainage and permeability, allowing water to pass through rather than building up pressure.

Applications and advantages: Gabionmurers work on civil engineering and landscaping projects such as gravity walls, river revetments, slope stabilization, culverts, noise barriers, and decorative features.
