Epoxyfiberglass refers to a reinforced composite material in which fiberglass fibers are embedded in a cured epoxy resin matrix. The fiberglass provides high strength and stiffness, while the epoxy resin binds the fibers, distributes loads, and protects the fibers from moisture and environmental attack.

Reinforcement options include chopped strand mat, woven roving, and continuous filament fabrics. Epoxy resin systems typically combine an epoxy resin with a hardener or curing agent, selected to achieve different cure profiles and performance. Processing methods range from hand lay-up and spray-up to vacuum infusion, resin transfer molding, filament winding, and prepregs. Curing can occur at ambient temperature or via elevated-temperature post-curing to enhance interfacial bonding and thermal stability.

Properties commonly associated with epoxyfiberglass include high strength-to-weight ratio, high stiffness, good fatigue resistance, and strong environmental and chemical resistance relative to polyester or vinyl ester systems. The bond between glass fibers and epoxy often yields superior interfacial strength, improving damage tolerance. Limitations include higher material cost, potential brittleness without toughness modifiers, and the need for proper curing to achieve expected performance. UV stability may require stabilizers or protective coatings, and moisture uptake is possible if curing is incomplete or improper.

Applications span aerospace components, marine hulls and decks, sports equipment, automotive parts, wind-energy structures, and various industrial components. Epoxy systems are also used for repair and retrofitting of damaged fiberglass items due to their strong adhesion and compatibility with existing FRP materials.

Safety and environmental considerations include handling hazards from resins and hardeners, exothermic curing reactions, and limited recyclability of cured composites, which commonly are disposed of as composite waste with appropriate regulations.
