Endoskopiskt is an adverb describing procedures performed with an endoscope to examine the interior of hollow organs or cavities. The term comes from endoscope plus the suffix -iskt and is used in Swedish and other Scandinavian languages.

Endoscopy encompasses a range of techniques that visualize internal surfaces through natural openings or small incisions. Common forms include gastroscopy and colonoscopy for the digestive tract, bronchoscopy for the airways, cystoscopy and ureteroscopy for the urinary tract, and other organ-specific applications. Endoscopes combine a light source with a camera and may be flexible or rigid, allowing real-time imaging. Visualization is often aided by insufflation of air or carbon dioxide to improve access and visibility.

Applications of endoskopiskt techniques include diagnostic evaluation and therapeutic interventions. Procedures may involve obtaining tissue biopsies, removing polyps, retrieving foreign bodies, dilating strictures, and performing targeted treatments such as polypectomy, stent placement, laser therapy, or electrocautery. The minimally invasive nature of endoscopy often enables outpatient management and quicker recovery compared with open surgery.

Safety and training are central to endoscopic practice. Procedures are performed by trained specialists such as gastroenterologists, pulmonologists, urologists, or ENT surgeons, using sterile techniques and appropriate anesthesia or sedation. While generally safe, endoscopic procedures carry risks including infection, bleeding, perforation, and anesthesia-related events, albeit at relatively low rates when conducted under established guidelines.
