Designanalysis is the systematic study and appraisal of design projects to understand how design decisions influence performance, usability, aesthetics, feasibility, and value. It encompasses analysis of artifacts (products, interfaces, spaces) as well as the processes by which they are conceived, developed, and evaluated. Applications span product design, software architecture, graphic design, industrial design, and urban or architectural planning.

Common methods include qualitative reviews such as expert assessment and design critiques, and quantitative techniques such as usability testing, experimental comparisons, analytics, and performance modeling. Tools include prototyping, surveys, task analysis, A/B testing, simulations, and statistical analysis.

Outcomes are insights that inform iteration, optimization, and decision-making. Designers use designanalysis to improve usability, accessibility, manufacturability, sustainability, and cost efficiency, and to communicate design rationale to stakeholders.

Process and relation: typically integrated into design workflows as an ongoing activity from problem framing to evaluation and revision. It often borrows methods from human-computer interaction, product research, engineering analysis, and market research. It complements design thinking with structured evaluation.

History/standards: the practice grew with usability engineering and design research in the late 20th century and continues through data-driven design and UX research. Standards and frameworks relevant to designanalysis include general usability and quality metrics, design reviews, and domain-specific guidelines.
