Pakketering

Pakketering is a term used in logistics and manufacturing to describe the process of preparing goods for transport and sale by enclosing and organizing them into packages and units suitable for handling, storage, and shipment. The practice covers decisions about packaging materials and shapes, the design of protective packaging, and the actual operations of packing, sealing, labeling, and unitizing goods for distribution. In modern operations, pakketering also includes palletizing, crating, and shrink-wrapping, as well as choosing packaging configurations that optimize space, weight, and protection.

Packaging is commonly categorized into primary packaging (the item’s own packaging), secondary packaging (grouped units), and tertiary packaging (pallets and crates for transport). Materials used range from cardboard and paperboard to plastics, glass, metal and composites, chosen for protection, cost, and sustainability. Most facilities employ a mix of manual and automated equipment, such as case packers, sealers, stretch wrap machines, robotic palletizers, and label printers.

Effective pakketering supports several goals: reducing product damage, improving handling and speed in warehousing and transport, enabling accurate lot and serial tracking, and meeting regulatory labeling and documentation requirements. It is closely linked to packaging design, supply chain optimization, and sustainability, with increasing emphasis on lightweight, recyclable materials and waste minimization. Modern trends include automation, smart packaging with sensors, and data-driven packaging optimization to align with e-commerce demands and circular economy objectives.
