Komentorivishelliin, often abbreviated as CLI (Command-Line Interface), is a text-based interface that allows users to interact with a computer program or operating system by typing commands into a terminal or console. Unlike graphical user interfaces (GUIs) that rely on visual elements like icons and menus, CLIs are purely text-driven. Users input commands and receive output in the form of text.

The core components of a CLI include a shell, which is the program that interprets and executes the commands, and the commands themselves, which are specific instructions for the shell. CLIs are widely used by system administrators, developers, and power users for tasks such as file management, system configuration, software installation, and scripting. They offer a high degree of control and efficiency, allowing for complex operations to be automated and performed quickly.

Common examples of CLIs include Bash (Bourne Again SHell) on Linux and macOS, PowerShell on Windows, and the traditional Command Prompt on older Windows versions. Many applications also provide their own CLIs for advanced customization and integration into workflows. While CLIs can have a steeper learning curve than GUIs, their power and flexibility make them an indispensable tool for many computing tasks.
