Hotellet, in Swedish usage, is the definite form of hotell and refers to a property that provides lodging for paying guests. More generally, a hotel is a commercial establishment that offers paid overnight accommodations and, often, a range of services such as reception, housekeeping, meals, and meeting facilities. Hotels vary in size, style, and target clientele, from small boutique properties to large, multi-wing complexes, and they operate worldwide in urban centers, near airports, and at resort destinations.

Hotels are subject to local licensing, health and safety regulations, and accessibility requirements, and many participate in rating systems to indicate quality.
