Shared kitchens, common rooms, organized activities, luggage storage, and laundry facilities are typical. Prices are generally lower than hotels, influenced by location, season, and bed type, and have evolved with online booking platforms and rating systems.

Safety and standards: many hostels provide secure lockers, 24-hour reception in some locations, and controlled access. Travelers consider location, cleanliness, and atmosphere. While the social environment is a key draw, issues such as noise, limited privacy, and variable quality can be drawbacks.
