It covers hardware and software designed for portable, battery-powered platforms where constraints on energy, heat, and space shape decisions. Hardware typically features system-on-chip designs based on low-power cores, complemented by flash memory, RAM, sensors, and wireless interfaces (GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular). The software stack ranges from firmware and device drivers to kernel-level components and higher-level middleware. On the software side, embeddedmobile often employs a mix of real-time operating systems and general-purpose mobile operating systems, with Linux-based platforms common in embedded Linux distributions, Android kernels, or real-time variants for safety-critical devices.

Development emphasizes hardware-software co-design, cross-compilation, and hardware abstraction layers to support diverse devices. Common applications include smartphones, wearables, automotive infotainment systems, drones, augmented reality devices, and industrial IoT endpoints.

Current trends include on-device AI acceleration, heterogeneous computing with neural processing units, advanced power-efficient wireless stacks, and open-source mobile platforms. Challenges include platform fragmentation, security risks, supply chain concerns, and balancing performance with energy efficiency.
