Dvere

Dvere is the Slovak term for a door or doors, a movable barrier that controls access between spaces and is typically integrated into a wall opening. Doors serve to provide privacy, security, weather protection, noise reduction, and accessibility, and they can be interior or exterior components of buildings, vehicles, or cabinets.

Construction and components include the door leaf, frame, hinges, latch or lock, handle, and often a door closer or stopper. Many doors also incorporate a strike plate, weatherstripping, and, for fire or security purposes, specialized cores and hardware. Materials vary widely and include solid or engineered wood, metal, glass, and composite or reinforced panels. Fire-rated doors, sound-insulating doors, and energy-efficient or insulated doors are common in modern construction.

Types are diverse. Hinged doors are the most common, but sliding doors, pocket doors, French doors, revolving doors, and bifold or barn doors are widely used for space management, aesthetics, or access control. Automated doors with sensors are standard in many public or high-traffic settings, offering hands-free operation.

Sizing and standards differ by region, but typical exterior residential doors are about 0.8 to 1.0 meters wide and around 2.0 meters tall, with thickness commonly in the 35–45 millimeters range; interior doors are narrower. Accessibility guidelines often specify minimum clear widths and handle heights to accommodate users with mobility impairments.

Maintenance involves inspecting hinges and alignment, lubricating moving parts, replacing worn weatherstripping, and ensuring locks and latches function reliably.
