Common offerings include ship stores (provisions and general crew supplies), fresh water, fuel products, and cleaning supplies, plus a broad array of deck hardware. This can include rope and rigging, anchors and chains, fenders, sails, nails and caulking; paints, lubricants, and maintenance products; navigation and communication equipment; safety gear such as lifeboats, life rafts, fire extinguishers, and personal protective equipment; and spare parts for engines, pumps, refrigeration, and electrical systems. Some chandlers provide services such as rigging, repairs, or provisioning planning, and may arrange delivery to vessels at berth or alongside.

In many ports they provide around-the-clock service to accommodate tight ship schedules.
