A pumpenhet, or pump package, is a complete pumping assembly consisting of a pump driven by a motor or engine, mounted on a common baseplate or skid. It is designed to move liquids in a variety of industrial and building services applications and often includes ancillary equipment and controls to enable compact, ready-to-operate operation.

A typical pumpenhet comprises the pump itself, the drive motor, and a rigid framework that provides alignment and support. It commonly includes a coupling or belt drive, protective guards, suction and discharge piping, valves, and instrumentation such as pressure and flow sensors. Many packages also feature a control system or soft starter, variable frequency drive, motor protection, priming or degassing equipment, and a lubrication or sealing arrangement for the pump, depending on the liquid and operating conditions.

Configurations of pumpenheter vary, with centrifugal pump packages being among the most common for water supply, cooling, and process applications. These may be end-suction, multistage, or vertical configurations. Packages for fire protection, wastewater treatment, or offshore and oil-and-gas operations may be skid-mounted and include additional features such as fuel supply, cooling circuits, heater systems, or emergency power connections. Positive displacement pump packages (such as gear or diaphragm types) are used where high pressure at lower flow is required. The choice of materials, seals, and coatings is typically guided by the liquid’s properties and environmental conditions.

Installation considerations for a pumpenhet include proper mounting on a vibration-damped base, correct alignment between pump and driver, appropriate priming and venting, protective devices, and adherence to relevant piping and electrical standards. Routine maintenance focuses on bearing, seal, and seal- chamber condition, motor health, and verification of control and instrumentation.
