Skidmounted, often written skid-mounted, refers to equipment or systems that are pre-assembled on a skid—a rigid steel framework designed for transport and installation. A skid-mounted unit integrates the process equipment, utilities, controls, and often a protective enclosure into a single portable package. The skid provides mounting points, a durable base, and sometimes wheels or lifting points to enable relocation by forklift, crane, or truck. Because the unit is largely factory-built, on-site installation typically requires only connection of utilities, commissioning, and testing.

Skid-mounted configurations are common in temporary or mobile applications including power generation, water and wastewater treatment, oil and gas processing, chemical processing, and heating or cooling systems. They are used to reduce field fabrication, shorten project schedules, and simplify maintenance by consolidating equipment into a single accessible module. They can be designed for outdoor or indoor service and may include integrated control panels, instrumentation, safety interlocks, and protective enclosures. Many units are designed to meet industry standards and can incorporate safety features such as firefighting equipment, spill containment, and compliance with codes like ASME, NFPA, or API, depending on application.

Advantages include rapid deployment, repeatability, transportability, and reduced field construction risk. Limitations include size and weight constraints for transport, regional permitting requirements, and the need for compatible utilities and space at the installation site.

Common examples are skid-mounted diesel generators, skid-mounted water treatment packages, and skid-mounted process trains.
