Lábujjdeformitások, or toe deformities, refer to abnormal changes in the shape or alignment of the toes. These conditions can affect one or more toes and range in severity from mild cosmetic concerns to significant sources of pain and functional impairment. Common types of toe deformities include bunions, hammer toes, claw toes, and mallet toes.

Bunions, medically known as hallux valgus, occur when the big toe deviates inward towards the other toes, causing a bony bump to form on the joint at the base of the big toe. This can lead to pain, inflammation, and difficulty wearing shoes. Hammer toes, claw toes, and mallet toes primarily affect the smaller toes. A hammer toe is characterized by an abnormal bend at the middle joint of the toe, causing it to resemble a hammer. A claw toe involves bending at both the middle and end joints, making the toe curl downwards. A mallet toe is similar to a hammer toe but the bend occurs at the joint closest to the toenail.

The causes of toe deformities are varied. Genetic predisposition plays a significant role, with some individuals being more prone to developing these conditions. Improper footwear, particularly shoes that are too narrow, pointed, or have high heels, can exacerbate or contribute to the development of deformities over time. Other contributing factors can include arthritis, trauma to the foot, and certain neurological conditions that affect muscle balance.

Symptoms typically include pain, redness, swelling, corns and calluses, and difficulty with mobility. The progression and severity of symptoms can depend on the specific type of deformity, its cause, and the individual's activity level. Treatment approaches range from conservative measures such as wearing wider, more supportive shoes, using orthotics or padding, and performing stretching exercises, to surgical intervention for more severe or painful cases. Early diagnosis and management are often recommended to prevent further progression and improve outcomes.
