Liftering refers to the process or practice of raising loads using equipment, techniques, or mechanical means. The term is not tied to a single standardized field, and its precise meaning depends on context. In industrial and construction settings, liftering describes moving heavy items with devices such as cranes, hoists, forklifts, jacks, or vacuum lifters. The emphasis is on safety, load management, and efficient transfer of materials between locations or stages of fabrication.

In machinery design, liftering can describe components that perform lifting actions as part of a machine cycle, such as lifters, cams, or actuated arms that raise or position parts during assembly or operation. In robotics and automation, liftering is used to characterize end effectors or grippers capable of lifting and placing objects, often incorporating sensors to monitor grip force and object stability.
