ekspertyza

Ekspertyza is a formal written assessment prepared by a qualified expert in a specific field. It documents factual findings, opinions, and the reasoning behind conclusions regarding a defined issue or case. An ekspertyza may address topics such as construction defects, medical evaluations, environmental impact, or financial valuation, among others.

Purpose and use. Ekspertyzy are intended to provide objective knowledge to support decision making, dispute resolution, regulatory compliance, insurance claims, or administrative procedures. They can be commissioned by courts, government agencies, companies, organizations, or private individuals.

Content and structure. A typical ekspertyza includes a description of the problem, the scope and methods of the assessment, data sources and tests performed, analysis and results, conclusions, and any recommendations. It often lists assumptions, limitations, and uncertainties, and identifies the expert’s qualifications and declaration of independence and impartiality.

Process and standards. The creation of an ekspertyza usually involves the appointment of a qualified expert (in Polish practice often called biegły or rzeczoznawca), data collection through inspection, testing, or analysis, and the drafting of the report. In legal contexts the document may be presented in court or subjected to scrutiny, examination, or cross-examination.

Applications and scope. Ekspertyzy are used across many sectors, including construction and architecture, engineering, geology and environmental science, medicine, forensics, economics, and product safety. While they provide guidance, they are advisory documents and their influence depends on the context and accompanying evidence.
