Dørlister are trim pieces that surround the perimeter of a door opening. They conceal the gap between the door frame and the adjoining wall, cover rough edges, and provide a finished, decorative border. Dørlister are commonly used on interior doors, but exterior doors may also be trimmed with weather-resistant variants.

Materials and profiles: They come in wood (softwood such as pine, or hardwood such as oak), medium-density fibreboard (MDF), PVC, or other composites. Profiles range from simple flat casings to more decorative shapes with curves or bevels. Widths and thicknesses vary to suit door size and architectural style; common interior door widths are roughly 20–60 mm, with thicker profiles used for exterior doors or more formal interiors.

Installation: Placed against the wall and door frame, with corners mitered at 45 degrees. They are typically attached with finishing nails or small screws, and may be reinforced with adhesive for drywall or plaster walls. After attachment, joints are filled with wood filler or caulk, and the surface is finished by painting or staining to match or contrast with the door and wall. In renovation work, old baseboards may need to be removed or cut back to accommodate new dørlister.

Maintenance and notes: Regular cleaning and touch-up painting or staining help protect the trim from moisture and wear. Damaged pieces are replaceable, and pre-primed MDF or PVC options can simplify maintenance and humidity resistance, especially in damp environments.
