Important design considerations include alignment with learning objectives, clarity, age and language appropriateness, accessibility for diverse learners, and the capacity to be used flexibly to differentiate instruction. Effective didácticos often integrate assessment opportunities and feedback, and they are chosen or adapted to subject, context, and student needs rather than applied universally.

In pedagogy, didácticos are part of the broader didáctica, the study of teaching methods and how to structure content, activities, and evaluation. While widely valued, critics warn against over-reliance on didactic materials or a rigid, teacher-centered approach, emphasizing that materials should support active, student-centered learning.
