Craneofaciales (English: craniofacial) refers to the anatomical region encompassing the skull and face and to congenital or acquired conditions that affect those structures. The term is used in clinical, surgical and research contexts to describe malformations, trauma, neoplasms and developmental disorders that involve cranial bones, facial bones, soft tissues, sensory organs and associated neurovascular structures.

Etiology of craneofaciales conditions is heterogeneous and includes genetic syndromes, prenatal environmental factors, vascular events, infections and physical injury. Common congenital presentations include cleft lip and palate, craniosynostosis, hemifacial microsomia and syndromic disorders such as Apert, Crouzon and Treacher Collins syndromes. Acquired craneofaciales issues arise from trauma, tumors or infection.

Diagnosis typically relies on clinical assessment supported by imaging (computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, cephalometry), genetic testing and functional evaluations (airway, hearing, speech). Management is multidisciplinary, often involving craniofacial surgeons, neurosurgeons, plastic surgeons, otolaryngologists, orthodontists, speech therapists and psychologists. Treatments range from surgical reconstruction (osteotomies, distraction osteogenesis, grafting, implant placement) to orthodontic care, prosthetics and rehabilitation.

Prognosis varies with the specific condition, severity and timing of intervention; early coordinated care can improve functional outcomes and psychosocial adaptation. Research in regenerative techniques, minimally invasive procedures and genetic therapies continues to shape the field.
