The automatikone, also known as the "autumn cone" or "autumn cone machine," is a traditional Finnish tool used primarily in forestry and logging operations. Its name derives from its primary function: facilitating the felling and processing of trees during the autumn season, when the ground is often softer and more accessible.

The device consists of a long, heavy metal bar, typically around 2.5 meters in length, with a sharp, pointed end designed to penetrate the bark of trees. The operator stands on a platform or elevated position, such as a tree stump or a specially designed stand, and uses the automatikone to lever the tree trunk off its base. The tool’s weight and leverage allow it to cut through the tree’s roots or the soil beneath, making it easier to fell the tree without the need for an axe or saw. Once the tree is felled, the automatikone can also be used to strip branches or split logs, though this is less common.

The automatikone gained prominence in Finland during the early 20th century as a practical alternative to manual felling methods. Its design was influenced by the need for efficiency in logging, particularly in dense forests where traditional tools were less effective.
