Yorkie

Yorkshire Terrier, commonly known as the Yorkie, is a small dog breed from Yorkshire, England. It has a compact, sturdy body and a long, silky coat that is typically blue and tan. Adults stand about 7 to 8 inches tall at the withers and weigh about 4 to 7 pounds. Yorkies are known for a bold, confident temperament and a lively, affectionate disposition.

Origins trace to the 19th century, when small terrier-type dogs in Yorkshire were bred to be both companions and vermin hunters in mills and homes. The breed's exact ancestry is not fully documented, but it emerged from crossbreeding among local terriers and other small breeds to produce a tiny, hardy dog with a luxurious coat.

Coat and care: The Yorkie's most distinctive feature is its long, straight, fine coat, usually blue and tan. The coat requires regular brushing and periodic trimming, and many owners opt for a shorter pet cut. Grooming is a central part of routine care.

Temperament and training: Yorkies are intelligent and alert. They form strong bonds with their families, can be good with children if socialized, and are effective watchdogs despite their size. They may be wary of strangers and can be stubborn; consistent, positive training is recommended.

Health and maintenance: They have a relatively long life expectancy of about 12 to 15 years. Common concerns include dental disease, patellar luxation, and respiratory or heart issues. Regular veterinary checkups, dental care, and responsible breeding help mitigate risks.
