Washcloths

Washcloths are small cloths used for cleansing the body, face, or household surfaces. They are typically square and measure about 8 to 12 inches (20 to 30 cm) per side, though facial cloths are often smaller.

Materials commonly used include cotton terry, cotton loop or muslin, microfiber blends (often polyester and polyamide), bamboo fibers, and blends. Cotton terry is highly absorbent and durable, microfiber offers quick drying and low lint, and bamboo fibers are marketed as soft and naturally antimicrobial. Washcloths are produced in woven or knitted forms, often with a terry loop or flat weave and finished with stitched hems.

Uses encompass bathing and facial cleansing, baby care, and household cleaning. In North America the term washcloth is commonly used for a body cloth, while in other regions terms such as face cloth or flannel may be used.

Care and maintenance: wash washcloths before first use, and regularly thereafter. Machine wash with detergent; avoid high heat and fabric softeners, which can reduce absorbency. Tumble dry on low or air dry. Replace when thinning, fraying, or persistent odor occurs.

Durability and environmental considerations: reusable washcloths reduce disposable wipes but require regular laundering. For hygiene, dry them thoroughly between uses and clean storage areas to minimize bacterial growth.
