VOOC

VOOC is a fast charging technology developed by OPPO Electronics, designed to deliver high charging speeds while aiming to minimize heat. The name VOOC stands for Voltage Open Loop Multi-step Constant-Current charging. It relies on a dedicated VOOC charger and compatible cable to provide high current at a relatively low voltage, with a charging protocol that manages current in multiple steps.

In practice, VOOC uses a low-voltage, high-current approach to charge a smartphone’s battery quickly. A typical implementation delivers around 20 W, achieved by supplying five volts at several amperes through a specially designed cable containing a small control chip. The system emphasizes safety and thermal management by restricting constant high-current delivery and adjusting charging behavior as the battery temperature and charge level change.

OPPO later expanded the charging family with higher-power variants marketed as Super VOOC, aiming for even faster top-up times. These higher-power versions use more aggressive power delivery and different voltage/current profiles to accelerate charging beyond standard VOOC speeds. VOOC technology has been widely used in OPPO smartphones and has influenced related fast-charging solutions within the company’s product ecosystem.

OnePlus previously employed VOOC-based charging as part of its Dash Charge and later Warp Charge branding, situating VOOC within a broader lineage of OPPO-associated fast charging technologies. The standard VOOC ecosystem requires compatible OPPO devices, VOOC-branded chargers, and the corresponding cables to achieve the intended charging performance; using non-VOOC accessories typically yields slower charging.
