USBmodule

A USBmodule is a component designed to add Universal Serial Bus (USB) connectivity to electronic devices or systems. These modules typically integrate the necessary USB controller, physical interface, and sometimes additional logic or power management features onto a small printed circuit board (PCB). Their primary purpose is to facilitate communication between a host device and peripheral devices using the standardized USB protocol.

USBmodules can vary widely in their functionality and implementation. Some are designed to act as USB host controllers, enabling a microcontroller or embedded system to control and communicate with USB peripherals like keyboards, mice, or storage drives. Others serve as USB device controllers, allowing a device to present itself to a host computer as a specific type of peripheral. The specific USB standard supported (e.g., USB 1.1, USB 2.0, USB 3.0, USB-C) depends on the integrated controller chip.

These modules are commonly used in embedded systems, prototyping, and product development where adding USB capability is required without designing a full USB interface from scratch. They can simplify the development process by providing a pre-certified and tested USB solution. The interface to the USBmodule from the main system can be through various means, such as GPIO pins, SPI, I2C, or dedicated high-speed interfaces depending on the module's design and the required data transfer rates. Power delivery and voltage regulation for the USB port are often included within the module itself.
