Tromboosiriskiin

Tromboosiriskiin is a Finnish term for thrombosis risk, the probability that a person will develop a blood clot in a blood vessel. Thrombosis can be venous, such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE), or arterial, including myocardial infarction or ischemic stroke. The assessment of tromboosiriskiin combines individual factors with situational influences and helps guide preventive and therapeutic decisions.

Risk factors for tromboosiriskiin include both genetic and acquired elements. Genetic risk factors include inherited thrombophilias such as factor V Leiden or the prothrombin G20210A mutation. Prevention and management focus on reducing thrombotic risk while minimizing bleeding. Approaches include pharmacologic prophylaxis with anticoagulants (for example, low-molecular-weight heparin or direct oral anticoagulants) in appropriate patients, mechanical methods such as compression stockings or pneumatic devices, and lifestyle or medical interventions to address reversible risk factors. Ongoing risk assessment is common, particularly in high-risk populations such as surgical patients, oncology patients, and the critically ill.
