Trawangan

Trawangan refers to Gili Trawangan, the largest of the three Gili Islands off the northwest coast of Lombok, Indonesia. Located in the Indonesian province of West Nusa Tenggara, it lies in the Lombok Strait between Lombok and the island of Bali. The island is popular for tourism, especially snorkeling and scuba diving, with surrounding coral reefs hosting diverse marine life.

Access is by boat from Lombok's Padangbai or Bangsal harbor; travel times are around 15-25 minutes by fast boat or longer by regular ferry. The island has no motorized vehicles, and movement is typically by bicycle or on foot; some areas use horse-drawn carts or electric shuttle services.

The economy is dominated by tourism, with accommodations ranging from budget hostels to upscale resorts, plus dive shops and restaurants. Popular activities include reef snorkeling, scuba diving at sites around the island, beachgoing, and sunset watching from the western coast. The western shore is known for sunset views, while the east offers calmer swimming and beaches.

The island is part of the Gili Islands grouping near Lombok and is adjacent to Gili Meno and Gili Air. Conservation and sustainability challenges accompany tourism, with efforts focused on reef health, waste management, and habitat preservation.
