Stringerpaletten

Stringerpaletten are a common type of wooden pallet whose base is built from longitudinal stringers rather than solid blocks. The top deck consists of deck boards laid across these stringers, which run lengthwise and support the load. Beneath the deck, the stringers create clear channels for forklift tines, and the pallet can be configured for two-way or four-way handling depending on the notch pattern and design.

Construction and sizes: A typical stringer pallet uses two to four stringers along the length, with deck boards spanning the stringers. Common regional variants include European Euro-pallets, often around 800 by 1200 millimeters, and North American pallets such as 40 by 48 inches. Heights and the exact number of stringers vary by size and intended load.

Advantages and limitations: Stringer pallets are usually cheaper and lighter than block pallets, making them economical for general use. They are relatively easy to repair, since damaged deck boards or individual stringers can be replaced. However, they can be less robust under heavy or concentrated loads and may have lower stability when using two-way handling. Their performance depends on the quality of wood, stringer spacing, and the ability of the forklift system to engage the tines from the appropriate directions.

Usage and standards: Stringer pallets are widely used in logistics and supply chains worldwide. In Europe, they are commonly found in EUR-pallet systems, while in North America they are standard for many industrial applications. They are typically made from softwood and are designed for reuse, repair, and recycling within pallet pooling and distribution networks.
