EURpallet

The EURpallet, often referred to as the EPAL Euro pallet, is a standardized wooden pallet used throughout European logistics. It was developed to enable reliable, interchangeable pallets across borders and transport modes, and is widely adopted in Europe and in international supply chains. The standard size is 1200 by 800 millimeters, a footprint that supports efficient stacking, handling, and intermodal transfer.

The system is maintained by EPAL (European Pallet Association) in collaboration with pallet manufacturers. Pallets built to the EPAL standard must meet defined dimensions and quality criteria and are subject to ongoing quality control. The EUR-pallet is designed for four-way forklift entry and for uniform load distribution, contributing to safety and efficiency in warehousing and transport.

Markings on EPAL pallets identify origin and compliance. Each pallet typically carries the EPAL logo together with country and production facility information and a unique pallet ID. These markings support traceability, repair, and quality assurance across the supply chain.

Repair and reconditioning are integral to the EUR-pallet system. Damaged pallets can be repaired by EPAL-certified repairers using EPAL-approved components, allowing the pallet to re-enter service and extend its usable life. When no longer viable, pallets can be recycled or repurposed.

Although many pallets of the same footprint exist, the EUR-pallet denotes the specific EPAL-standard construction and markings that ensure consistent interchangeability, reliability, and compatibility with European logistics practices.
