Rovarálló

Rovarálló is a Hungarian term that translates to "insect repellent" or "insect deterrent" in English. It refers to any substance or device designed to prevent insects, particularly biting and stinging ones like mosquitoes, flies, and ticks, from landing on or bothering humans and animals.

These repellents work through various mechanisms. Many contain chemical compounds that interfere with an insect's olfactory senses, making it difficult for them to locate their targets. Others may have a physical barrier effect, or create an odor that insects find unpleasant. The most common active ingredients in chemical repellents include DEET, picaridin, and oil of lemon eucalyptus. These are often found in sprays, lotions, wipes, and aerosols.

Beyond chemical applications, rovarálló can also encompass non-chemical methods. These might include physical barriers like mosquito nets and screens, electric insect killers that attract and electrocute insects, or natural deterrents such as certain plants (e.g., citronella, lavender) whose scents are known to repel specific insects.
