Prosessikartan

Prosessikartan is a visual tool used to depict the steps, decisions, inputs and outputs that constitute a business process. It is employed to improve understanding, communication and efficiency by making how work flows explicit. The map supports process ownership, standardization, training and compliance, and is commonly used in quality management and continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean and Six Sigma. It can be created for any process, from manufacturing to administrative workflows.

Typical elements include the process start and end, individual steps or activities, decision points, arrows showing the sequence, inputs and outputs for each step, and sometimes roles, data, and timing information. Some maps also show waste, risks or quality checks.

Common formats and variants include simple flowcharts; SIPOC diagrams (Supplier-Input-Process-Output-Customer); swimlane or lane diagrams that assign steps to actors or departments; value stream maps used to analyze value-adding versus non-value-adding steps; and more formal notations such as BPMN.

Process mapping follows a lifecycle: define scope and objectives, collect data and stakeholder input, draft the current-state map, validate with stakeholders, identify bottlenecks or waste, design and communicate a future-state map, implement changes and monitor results.
