It is intended to describe a state where a file is prepared to print without requiring device-specific adjustments.

Origin and usage: The word is a recent neologism that emerged in design and publishing communities in the early 2020s. It combines the concept of printing with a suffix drawn from language in which the word “visible” or “achievable” is conveyed. It has no formal status in major standards bodies, but it is used informally to distinguish truly print-ready content from materials that need extra tailoring for different printers or media.

Technical criteria: A printsibile file typically satisfies several requirements. Fonts are embedded or subset to avoid font substitution. Vector graphics are used where appropriate, with raster images supplied at sufficient resolution. Color management is handled via embedded ICC profiles and consistent color spaces.
