Typical domains described as powerintensive include data centers and high-performance computing facilities, where servers and cooling systems require significant wattage; consumer and professional computing hardware such as gaming PCs and cryptocurrency mining rigs; and industrial processes like aluminum smelting or cement production that demand substantial electrical input. Powerintensive systems may also include fast-charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, which can impose large peak loads on grids.

Measurement and management: powerintensive usage is assessed by instantaneous power (watts or kilowatts), peak demand, and total energy consumption (kWh). Key considerations include thermal management, electrical infrastructure, and grid impact.
