Perusanalyysit

Perusanalyysit, which translates to "root cause analysis" in English, is a systematic problem-solving method used to identify the underlying causes of undesirable events or problems. The primary goal is to move beyond treating superficial symptoms and instead address the fundamental reasons why a problem occurred, thereby preventing recurrence. This approach is widely applied across various industries, including manufacturing, healthcare, IT, and safety management.

The process typically begins with clearly defining the problem. Once the problem is understood, data is collected to understand the sequence of events and contributing factors leading up to the issue. Various tools and techniques can be employed during this phase, such as brainstorming, flowcharts, and fishbone diagrams (also known as Ishikawa diagrams). The fishbone diagram, for instance, helps categorize potential causes into broader areas like people, process, equipment, materials, environment, and management.

Once potential causes are identified, the analysis focuses on determining which of these are the actual root causes. This often involves asking "why" repeatedly for each identified cause, a technique known as the "5 Whys." The goal is to drill down until the fundamental issue is uncovered. After identifying the root cause(s), solutions are developed and implemented. Finally, the effectiveness of the implemented solutions is monitored to ensure the problem has been resolved and will not reoccur.
