Modellteam

Modellteam (often written as Modell-Team) is a term used in German-speaking contexts to describe a cross-disciplinary group responsible for creating, validating, and maintaining modelling artefacts within a project. The team coordinates the development of abstract representations such as data models, process models, system models, and simulation models that support analysis, decision making, and systems engineering. The central goal is to provide a single source of truth that can be traced to requirements and validated against stakeholder needs.

Responsibilities include defining modelling standards and methods, establishing a shared modelling language, maintaining a modelling repository, ensuring version control and traceability to requirements, performing model verification and validation, and coordinating model integration with other artefacts and tools. The Modellteam collaborates with domain experts, engineers, analysts, and software developers to ensure models reflect real-world behavior and constraints.

Typical roles within a Modellteam include a modelling architect, domain experts, modellers or analysts, data engineers, simulation engineers, verification engineers, configuration managers, and a project manager. The team works across the modelling lifecycle from scoping and design to validation, integration, review, baselining, and ongoing maintenance. Documentation, change control, and alignment with the system architecture are emphasized.

Tools and languages commonly used include UML, SysML, BPMN, Modelica, MATLAB/Simulink, and other domain-specific languages, along with repository and version-control platforms ranging from MBSE environments to general-purpose systems. Outputs typically comprise model diagrams, simulation results, dashboards, and comprehensive documentation.
