Logmenedzsment, or log management, is the systematic collection, storage, analysis, and monitoring of log data generated by software applications, operating systems, and network devices. It enables organizations to observe system behavior, troubleshoot issues, and support security and regulatory compliance.

Core activities include log generation and collection, normalization and parsing, centralized storage, indexing, search and analytics, alerting, and retention policies. Effective log management relies on consistent log formats, accurate timestamps, and secure data handling.

Architectures typically use log shippers or agents to forward logs to a central backend, where data is stored, indexed, and made searchable. Popular solutions include the Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), Graylog, Splunk, Loki, and Fluentd/Fluent Bit. Organizations may deploy on-premises, in the cloud, or in hybrid configurations, often adopting structured logging (for example JSON) to improve parsing and querying.
