Konsoli

Konsoli is a term used in computing and gaming to denote a device or interface that provides user access to a system's functions. In Finnish usage, konsoli commonly refers to a gaming console — a dedicated hardware platform for playing video games — as well as to software interfaces such as a command-line console or terminal.

Gaming consoles are purpose-built systems designed to run games and connect to displays, often with dedicated controllers. They emphasize closed ecosystems, optimized hardware, and digital distribution. Notable examples include home consoles, like PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo systems, and portable or hybrid devices such as the Nintendo Switch. Modern consoles support online services, media apps, and cross‑platform play.

The term console also describes a computer console or terminal, a text-based interface to an operating system or application. This can be a hardware device with a monitor and keyboard or a software program called a terminal emulator. Users interact by entering commands, running scripts, and viewing text output; shells such as bash, zsh, and PowerShell are common examples.
