Komposiittilinerit

Komposiittilinerit are multilayer barrier systems designed to prevent fluid migration in environmental containment applications. They combine an impermeable barrier layer with secondary and protective layers to form a single, integrated liner. The typical configuration includes a primary impermeable geomembrane, most often HDPE, paired with a secondary barrier such as a geosynthetic clay liner (GCL) or a compacted geosynthetic layer, plus a drainage or protective layer and a geotextile cover. This combination aims to enhance chemical resistance, mechanical strength, and long-term durability.

Materials and configurations vary, but common elements include an HDPE or other polymer geomembrane as the main barrier, a secondary barrier (such as GCL or dense geosynthetic composite), a drainage layer to manage pore water, and protective fabrics to reduce puncture risk. Liner systems may be prefabricated as panels or installed as field-assembled laminates. Installation typically involves surface preparation, seam welding or fusion of the geomembrane, installation of interlayers, and integration with leak-detection systems where required.

Applications for komposiittilinerit include municipal and industrial waste landfills, lined ponds for chemical or mining processes, tailings storage facilities, wastewater treatment basins, and agricultural containment. They are selected for low permeability, chemical resistance, temperature tolerance, and the ability to tailor barrier performance to specific site conditions.

Performance and standards: Composite liners aim for very low effective permeability and long-term integrity, often combining chemical resistance with mechanical durability. They are governed by standards from organizations such as ASTM, ISO, and EN, which address material properties, installation quality, and testing methods. Proper design, installation, and field quality control are essential to prevent leaks and ensure performance over the liner’s lifetime.
