Installar

Installar is the infinitive form of a verb used in Spanish and Portuguese meaning to install, to place in position, or to set up software, hardware, systems, or equipment. In standard orthography, those languages spell the verb as instalar. The form "installar" with two l's is generally considered nonstandard in Spanish and Portuguese and is often seen as an English loanword or a spelling error, especially in formal writing or documentation.

Usage context is broad but most commonly appears in computing and technology. It refers to actions such as installing software on a computer, installing a device or component, or deploying a system. The term can also apply to non-digital setups, such as installing furniture, equipment, or infrastructure, where the emphasis is on placing something in its final position and configuring it to function.

Spelling and cross-language notes: the standard spellings are instalar in both Spanish and Portuguese. The double-l form install ar tends to appear in user interfaces, bilingual texts, or technical material influenced by English, but it is not preferred in formal writing in those languages.

Conjugation (Spanish): the verb follows regular -ar endings. Examples include present indicative: yo instalo, tú instalas, él instala; preterite: instalé, instalaste, instaló. Other tenses follow the normal -ar paradigm. In Portuguese, a parallel regular -ar conjugation applies with its own pronouns and accents.
