Haldusriistad

Haldusriistad are administrative tools used by IT professionals to manage and control computer systems, networks and services. They cover software, interfaces and processes that help operators perform routine and advanced tasks more efficiently, reliably and securely. The term is commonly used in Estonian IT contexts to describe tools intended for system administration rather than end-user applications.

Haldusriistad support a range of activities, including provisioning and configuration of hardware and software, user and access management, patching and update deployment, backup and recovery, monitoring and alerting, incident response, and change management. They enable automation through scripting, APIs and automation frameworks, reducing manual effort and the likelihood of human error.

Types of haldusriistad can be broadly categorized as: operating system administration tools (command-line Interfaces, shells, and utility apps), network administration tools (monitoring and management of routers, switches and firewalls), configuration management and automation tools (such as automated deployment and desired-state management), database administration tools, and cloud or virtualized environment tools (orchestration, resource management, and API consoles). In practice, many organizations use integrated suites that combine multiple capabilities, along with dedicated monitoring and logging platforms.

Security and governance are central to haldusriistad use. Access is typically controlled with role-based access, minimum-privilege principles, and strong authentication; actions are logged for audit and compliance; and change management procedures guide deployments and incident handling.
