Glukosbehandling refers to the medical management of blood glucose levels, primarily in individuals with diabetes mellitus. Short-term issues like hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) can lead to increased thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, and in severe cases, diabetic ketoacidosis or hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state. Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) can cause dizziness, confusion, sweating, and even seizures if untreated.

Long-term elevated blood glucose can damage blood vessels and nerves, increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease, kidney damage, nerve damage (neuropathy), eye damage (retinopathy), and foot problems. Effective glukosbehandling aims to mitigate these risks.

The treatment approach for glukosbehandling is individualized and depends on factors such as the type of diabetes, age, overall health, lifestyle, and personal preferences. Common strategies include lifestyle modifications, such as dietary changes and regular physical activity.
