Elektronikgehäuse, or electronics enclosure, is a rigid protective housing for electronic components and assemblies. It provides mechanical protection, environmental shielding, EMI/RFI shielding, and mounting surfaces for boards, connectors, and cooling devices. Enclosures range from compact plastic boxes to large metal cabinets and can be desktop, wall-mounted, rack-mount, or floor-standing.

Materials include metal such as steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, and plastics such as ABS and polycarbonate. Common form factors include handheld housings, DIN-rail enclosures, 19-inch racks, and cabinet-style enclosures. Manufacturing methods vary from sheet-metal stamping, bending, and welding to plastic injection molding, extrusion, and additive manufacturing for prototyping.

Design considerations include internal layout and mounting hardware, thermal management with heatsinks, passive conduction, and optional active cooling, as well as EMC shielding through a conductive enclosure or coatings and proper grounding. Enclosures are rated for ingress protection using IEC 60529 IP codes or NEMA ratings, and may need to meet safety and environmental standards such as RoHS and UL/CSA when used in commercial products. Accessories include seals, gaskets, cable glands, knockouts, and latch or lock mechanisms.

Applications include industrial automation, telecommunications, consumer electronics, medical devices, and automotive systems, where the enclosure protects sensitive electronics from moisture, dust, and mechanical stress while enabling serviceability and compliance with environmental conditions.
